StoryLine:

While Kollywood movies might have had the post office as a minor setting, Praveen’s Pothanur Thabal Nilayam revolves around a post office. A suspense drama set in 1990, the film is about what happens inside this post office. Praveen, who is directing and playing the lead in the film, says, “Pothanur was the first post office established in Coimbatore. It’s over 150 years old, hence, the title. What’s interesting is that this film will be a trilogy. “The story is such that we needed to make it into a trilogy. The shooting for the first part is over, and we will begin shooting for parts two and three simultaneously,” says the director.So, what inspired him about the post office? “We see the post office in passing in films these days. But my inspiration came from my father, who worked at the post office. I have been to his workplace and know how things worked there. He also gave me some inputs. While the process of how the place works is real, the story is fiction,” says Praveen.While Praveen plays the lead, Anjali Rao, who has acted in a couple of films and TV serials, is the female lead. The film also stars Venkat Sundar and Jagan Krish in important roles.“Apart from them, there are 75 theatre artistes from Coimbatore, who have worked on this project,” says Praveen, who had earlier worked as an animator and technical director for Kochadaiiyaan.The team has shot the film across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. “Even though the story is set in Coimbatore, we had to shoot in other places as well as we wanted locations that conveyed the period the film is set in,” explains the director.
