StoryLine:

Jane Nichols has been a bridesmaid for 27 weddings. She keeps all the dresses worn to each of the weddings, which are a mixture of weird styles due to the different themes, in a big closet in her small apartment. On the evening she has to attend two weddings simultaneously, she meets Kevin Doyle, who catches her changing her outfit between the weddings in a taxi. Later he also helps her get home in the taxi but discusses with her his cynical views of marriage. After Jane exits the cab, Kevin finds her day planner left behind. In the meantime, Jane’s sister, Tess, arrives from Europe and falls in love with Jane’s boss, George, at first sight. Tess pretends to like the same things that George does in order to get him to like her. Despite being in love with George herself, Jane does not reveal the truth and her sister’s courtship progresses rapidly. The reporter who agrees to cover their wedding for the “Commitments” section of the newspaper turns out to be Kevin, who writes wedding announcements under the name Malcolm Doyle but who wants to be promoted to writing investigative pieces about the real news. After reading Jane’s planner, he decides to use its contents as material for a piece on the “perpetual bridesmaid”.

Jane is unaware of Kevin’s intentions. When he turns up at her apartment to interview her for his column on Tess’s wedding, he catches sight of her closet and makes fun of the tasteless styles. After protesting at first, Jane ends up modelling all 27 bridesmaids dresses in her closet. Kevin takes pictures of her in all of them and when his boss insists on seeing his latest draft of the column despite his protestations, he includes the photos, including a candid portrait shot of Jane looking wistful.
