The day starts out as usual for residents in the small Heartland town of Minninnewah. It’s springtime and big storms are just part of life. Nothing to get worked up about…until they are. Inhabitants will have just 13 Minutes to get to shelter before the largest tornado on record ravages the town, leaving the inhabitants searching for their loved ones and fighting for their lives. In the wake of total devastation, four families must overcome their differences and find strength in themselves and each other in order to survive.Four families in a Heartland town are tested in a single day when a tornado hits, forcing paths to cross and redefining the meaning of survival.There’s a tornado coming to the fictional small American town of Minninnewah. However, in lazy allegory fashion, 13 Minutes (courtesy of director Lindsay Gossling, scripting a story from herself and Travis Farncombe), the real storm is all the truths and drama bubbling to the surface for these residents. 13 Minutes attempts to provide social commentary on everything from abortion, homophobia, mother-daughter relationships, racism within interracial communities, and immigration to no satisfactory avail. The results are actually quite dismal; a frontloaded plot introducing characters for roughly 30 minutes and an emotionally lifeless 40-minute aftermath of the impending disaster.
