The fifty-year-old Japanese science fiction series, Ultraman, has been given new life on Netflix with an action-packed 13-episode season that successfully updates the franchise for a new generation. Back in the 1960s, Shin Hayata bonded with Ultraman in order to defeat giant monsters and alien invaders hell-bent on destroying the Earth. In 2019, Shin’s son – Shinjiro – takes on his father’s responsibility to defend Earth from outside threats, and hopefully, become Ultraman full time in the process. But unlike the good old days where the enemies literally roared in your face, Shinjiro must navigate a more nuanced world filled with aliens and government agencies where it’s difficult to tell the good guys from the bad.ULTRAMAN Season 1-2 Download.
Like many superheroes who’ve come before him, Shinjiro – at first glance – is just your average high school student trying to fit in with his friends, and muster up enough courage to ask the girl next door out on a date. But lurking behind all of that “averageness” are some pretty cool abilities that Shinjiro inherited from his father. You know… enhanced strength, agility, and endurance – typical superhuman stuff. The really cool thing about Ultraman is that the series doesn’t rush Shinjiro’s progression from zero to hero. Instead, the writers wisely use all 13 episodes to develop Shinjiro’s character through a rigorous trial by fire. Let’s just say, Shinjiro’s arc pays off in the final climactic moments of the season.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s start with Shinjiro’s compelling coming-of-superhero-age story, which all starts after his dad is severely injured in a fight against a powerful alien, named Bemular. The unfortunate event forces Shinjiro to put on the Ultraman armor, allowing him to test the suit’s abilities against a much stronger opponent. Shinjiro’s first major fight is visually captivating but also serves as an important part of the story. The aspiring Ultraman doesn’t lose, per se, but he doesn’t win either. From here on in, Shinjiro knows he’s in for an uphill battle against this formidable new enemy.
