Netflix’s Scissor Seven isn’t your boilerplate anime — it’s hand-drawn, Chinese and purely a comedy. Originally titled Killer Seven, it first aired on Chinese TV in 2018; the title was changed for its international streaming debut presumably, per a quick Google search, to avoid confusion with a video game. Now that a bigger audience is privy to its offbeat, irreverent style, the question remains whether it’ll distinguish itself or be yet another title assimilated into Netflix’s last-shot-of-Raiders of the Lost Ark content menus.“MISSION 1: KILL BAD PEOPLE, EARN GOOD MONEY.” Wu Liuqi zooms into the aforementioned evil guy’s lair. He slashes the guards to bits and plunges his sword through the baddie. A boss-type pays Liuqi $100 million for the job, but Liuqi cuts the guy in half, sending cash flying and fluttering through the air. “I’m sorry. Someone paid me more to kill you,” he tells the corpse.Scissor Seven Season 1-3 Download
But! This is all a fantasy. In reality, Liuqi parks his ass in a food cart, spooning out beef-offal stew to elementary school kids. His pal is a sentient fowl-creature that looks like an Angry Bird crossed with the meme where the sunglasses fall in front of someone’s face. (Don’t understand who or what this character is? Well, deal with it.) He convinces Liuqi to become a freelance hired killer so he can make some real money. Cue the usual training sequence, and even though Liuqi appears to fail spectacularly at every step, he succeeds in graduating the program anyway, just like in real life. Bird-guy (as I affectionately call him) gives Liuqi a magic egg that allows him to transform into whatever he wants. Did I mention Liuqi is an amnesiac? Well, Liuqi is an amnesiac.Liuqi’s weapon of choice is a scissor, which flies into his hand like Mjolnir, if Thor was a seamstress. For his first gig, he takes the form of a dinner pig, all the better to infiltrate a wedding and shear the bride’s hair off — not exactly a high-paying hitman gig, but you gotta get your feet wet somehow. Then, a cute robot tries to kill him, but a masked female warrior destroys the bot, blowing up a city block in the process.
