Vikram is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International.[2] The film stars Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil[3][4] with Kalidas Jayaram,[5] Narain and Arjun Das in supporting roles. Vikram was released theatrically on 3 June 2022.[6] Despite being a namesake of the 1986 film that also starred Haasan, the two films are otherwise unrelated. However, Vikram’s prologue that released in 2020 featured a remixed version of the theme song from the former film.[7]Vikram begins with the events after the busting of illegal consignment belonging to Adaikalam and Anbu by Inspector Bejoy few months ago. The other 2 drug containers are missing where Santhanam assigns the gangsters to retrieve the drug consignment as it would help in forming his own government. Meanwhile, A group of masked men are on a killing spree where they are killing a few high ranking-cops in Chennai.

Prapanchan, an official from the NCB is also killed. Karnan, a drunkard and Prapanchan’s father is out on a mission to seek vengeance on Prapanchan’s death by the gang. However, The vengeance ends up becoming a mission that is led by Karnan, who is a highly-proficient retired cop Vikram. Jose, the Chief of the Chennai City Police Department brings a team of black-ops headed by Amar to begin the investigation. Amar starts digging into the life of Vikram where he learns that his main target is actually Santhanam. What is Vikram’s motives in destroying the gang forms the rest of the plot.
Lokesh Kanagaraj was signed by Kamal Haasan’s production house Raaj Kamal Films International to direct a film for the studio during November 2019. For which he had previously mentioned his admiration of Kamal Haasan’s work, noting that two of the actor’s films, Sathya (1988) and Virumaandi (2004), had influenced him to become a film director.[9] Despite agreeing terms, both the director and the studio opted to prioritise commitments, for other films before beginning production work.
