Autorickshaw driver Vava (Vishnu Unnikrishnan) is a sensible young man, who is generally liked in his small town, where he is a very active sportsman and the voice of reason, at home and in town when inter-communities scuffles break out. One morning, minority community members find that their flag, out of the several hoisted at one point, has been torn. The truth is that the previous night, a passing drunk lorry driver and his helper reached out and grabbed whatever piece of cloth they could to wear as a muffler for the cold. But community members overthink the situation and feel it is an act to slight them.

In a heartening scene, the elders diffuse the situation by coming together with the leaders of all the communities to hoist a new flag in place of the torn one. But hatchets are not easily buried and both communities remain cautious. In this already difficult situation, Vava, driven by an infatuation, is found in a very wrong place at a very wrong time; in the toilet of the mosque at 4 am, and is unable to fully explain what he is doing there. It is the perfect opportunity for the minority community to say that they are being targeted and Vava is handed over to the police, while the his own community try to rope him in as their activist.
