Paani Ch Madhaani (transl. Churning of water) is a 2021 Indian Punjabi language romantic comedy film directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, produced by Mani Dhaliwal, Sunny Raj and Prabhjot Sidhu, under the banner of Dara Films Entertainment. Starring Gippy Grewal and Neeru Bajwa, the film is a retro drama set in 1980s, in which a group of Punjabi musicians travel to London to make a mark. Set in the 80s, a troupe of artists led by singers, Gulli and Sohni from a rustic Punjab town are given land the opportunity to perform in the UK. There they stumble upon a lottery ticket that shows them dreams to get rich quicker than their talent of singing. In a comic sequence of events, the ticket is lost, forcing the group to fall back on their skill of being musicians to fulfil their families’ aspirations.Gulli, played by Gippy Grewal, is a simple singer in his small town and is joined by instrument artists who make a living through street performances. Gippy carries the film on his firm shoulders with a profound performance that shows how the actor has matured to a level where he plays simple folks without coming across a clown.

Once the band gets a female singer in Sohni (Neeru Bajwa), they get noticed by a UK based promoter (Gurpreet Ghuggi) who takes them abroad on a musical tour. From a rollicky story, the narrative swivels into a moral alley once the scene shifts to the UK. Having won a lottery ticket, the group, played by noted actors Karamjit Anmol, Harby Sangha, Malkeet Rauni, begins making plans to fulfil the ambitions of their family back home in Punjab. Karamjit’s performance, a caricature of a buck toothed dim wit, is winning hearts as he brings originality to his usual comical acting.
