National Security is a lame, mildly offensive action comedy that puts way too much emphasis on car chases and explosions and not enough on little details like plot, character development, and humor. Most of the humor in the film seems to have been improvised by Martin Lawrence, but his character, as written, is so hateful that his shtick quickly becomes irritating. Earl Montgomery (Lawrence), an overzealous failed police recruit, lies about being brutalized by Hank Rafferty (Steve Zahn), a decent cop dealing with the recent death of his partner. As a result, Hank loses his job and his girlfriend, and ends up serving six months in prison.National Security 2003 Movie Download.
This setup should offend cops, as well as actual victims of police brutality, but evidently the filmmakers think that we should be amused, and that we should hope Earl and Hank eventually become pals. Zahn is a gifted comic actor, wonderful with the right material (Out of Sight, Joy Ride), and capable of lifting a lesser script (even something as inept as Saving Silverman, National Security director Dennis Dugan’s previous film) with his high-energy screen presence. But this film, much to its detriment, is Martin Lawrence’s show.National Security 2003 Movie Download.
Zahn takes a back seat to Lawrence’s strained antics, and lets his big cop mustache do most of the acting. Capable supporting players like Bill Duke and Colm Feore don’t have much to do, The plot makes little sense, the humor is forced and unpleasant, and the action is routine. Zahn tries to create a character out of thin air, and Lawrence tries to be funny, but to little avail.National Security 2003 Movie Download.
On the basis of this ill-conceived comedy vehicle, it’s pretty obvious that Martin Lawrence isn’t destined to be the future idol of a) law enforcement, b) Hollywood comedies or c) the American Civil Liberties Union.Instead, he’s more likely to be hauled up on charges of racism, stupidity, and a total lack of common sense.
