Principal photography was set to begin in early 2020,[2] but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic,[3] commencing in September 2020.[4] Following the pandemic setbacks and the replacement of Johnny Depp with Mikkelsen, the film’s release was pushed back to 15 July 2022, then forward to 8 April 2022 in the United Kingdom and 15 April 2022 in the United States. It recieved mixed reviews, though it is considered an improvement over its predecessor.Two more Fantastic Beasts films are in development.In the jungles of Bhutan in the 1930s, Newt Scamander helps a qilin, a magical creature that can see into one’s soul as well as the future, give birth. Gellert Grindelwald’s disciples, led by Credence Barebone, attack, kill the mother, and kidnap the newborn, who Grindelwald kills to harness its ability of precognition. Unbeknownst to them, the qilin has birthed twins, the younger of which Newt is able to save.Unable to fight Grindelwald due to a blood pact, Dumbledore recruits Newt, his brother Theseus, American mage Lally Hicks, Senegalese-French mage Yusuf Kama, and American No-Maj Jacob Kowalski to thwart Grindelwald’s plan for world domination. Yusuf Kama is planted as a spy in Grindelwald’s inner circle while the rest of the group is sent to Berlin, Germany. There, the group witnesses how Grindelwald is acquitted of all charges by the International Federation of Wizards, subsequently running for office as its Supreme Head. Grindelwald’s disciples, who have undermined the German ministry of magic, arrest Theseus and plan to assassinate Grindelwald’s competitors.
