StoryLine:

In the Kingdom of Avalor, Elena takes Naomi up a mountain to her favorite view of the kingdom while she laments about how she was trapped in the Amulet of Avalor for forty-one years. One day at school in Enchantia, Sofia is daydreaming and has a vision into the past where she sees Shuriki attack and kill Elena’s parents before striking Elena with a spell, but she wakes up to the fairy Flora dismissing the students for summer vacation before she could see what happened. As King Roland and Queen Miranda try to decide where to take their kids for their summer vacation, Sofia’s amulet summons her to the castle’s secret library. When she arrives, the library turns one of its books into the wizard Alacazar, who explains her daydream about Elena. He reveals that Elena originally possessed Sofia’s amulet, which saved her life by pulling her inside it when Shuriki attacked her that day. Alacazar took the amulet and searched for years for someone who could help him free Elena. When he grew too old, he turned himself into a book in this library and placed the amulet in the castle to bide his time until he could find someone. Upon arrival, Sofia is horrified to learn that they would meet Shuriki as a formality and notices that the cheering crowds are not actually happy, spotting several signs of suppression. At the palace, Shuriki is eating with them when winged jaguars known as jaquins snatch some of the food. Sofia’s amulet points her to them, and she asks for their help. After hearing Sofia’s plan to bring Elena back, the jaquins agree to and take her to Alacazar’s old house.
