However, Aarvi is mysteriously murdered by a serial killer and the cops frame Gautam as the suspect, but ACP V. K. Ganesan suspects a cab driver named Bhairav Purohit, who is having a one-sided love with Rasika Mapuskar as the serial killer. How does Gautam seeks vengeance on Bhairav and prove his innocence forms the crux of the plot.The songs are composed by Ankit Tiwari, Tanishk Bagchi, and Kaushik-Guddu. The lyrics are written by Manoj Muntashir, Kunaal Vermaa, Tanishk Bagchi and Prince Dubey. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave 2 out of 5 stars stating it to be disappointing and worst than the first part. [21] Shweta Keshri of India Today rated the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote “The gripping plot of Ek Villain Returns is the winner with an engaging storyline. Mohit Suri, who did a good job with the first film of the Ek Villain franchise, brings a masala entertainer with massy dialogues, thrilling moments and good performances in the sequel”.[22] Rohit Bhatnagar of The Free Press Journal rated the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote “Ek Villain Returns has surely returned but not with the vibe of the earlier one.
