StoryLine:

An anthology of stories about man-woman relationships; hinting not so subtly that man has might, while woman has the mind.In spite of being a small and tight-knit industry, Malayalam cinema has so far witnessed just a handful of anthologies. Furthermore, there have been fewer cinemas that have progressively discussed the politics of the gender binaries. The three stories in the anthology are that of Savithri, Rachiyammma and Rani. Savithri is directed by Jay K, and the story is set in Kerala at the time right after the British Raj when the communists were being publicly prosecuted. Savithri, a comrade on the run, finds refuge disguised as a house-help. Her story is juxtaposed against the story of Panchali from Mahabhaharatha while living in exile disguised as a chaperone.Rachiyammma, directed by Venu, is based on a 1969 novella written by Uroob. It revolves around Rachiyamma, a milk-maid and her platonic affection towards a plantation officer who takes charge at the estate near her home. Rani, directed by Aashiq Abu, tells the tale of two young and eager lovers whose eagerness gets the better of them.

The ace directors, Jay K, Venu and Aashique Abu give us a spectacle in Aanum Pennum. The y have great performances by Samkuktha Menon, Parvathy Thiruvoth, and Darshana Rajendran. Their powerful portrayal bring their characters to life. Joju George, Asif Ali and Roshan Mathew back the women with equal mettle. They get into the skin of their characters allowing the viewer to get into the narrative with ease. Ace cinematographers Shyju Khalid,Venu and Suresh Rajan just do their brilliant best. Music by Bijibal and Dawn Vincent seamlessly blends into the storytelling making the cinema an effortless audio-visual experience.
